ME
One of my first days at Chiat\Day, Lee Clow walked past my office. I stopped him to introduce myself because, LEE CLOW.
I said, "I'm a new Art Director, you built an amazing place here."
He said, "It's pretty cool not having a real fucking job."
That has stuck with me ever since. I've been loving my "not real" job for over 10 years. I'm a problem solver at heart and advertising serves me different problems every project.
Beyond creativity, I believe my greatest strength is empathy. I understand people. I understand clients not by what they say, but what they mean. I feel for those I work with, when they need a push in the right direction or a helping hand. It’s something that I try to imbue in my work as well. I want to make people feel something when they see/experience my work.
I believe the "idea" is the holy grail. You must always protect it but at the same time nourish it. If you have an awesome idea, it needs to be shared. It does no one good to be selfish and hide your ideas. Talk to people, see what they think. Take every comment with a grain of salt but take every comment. Every great thing I've done in my career I owe to the incredible people I had by my side. Teamwork makes the dream work. I also live by the words in the following video.
